Environments
Every project has a Production environment. Add a Development environment to test sign-up, emails and invitations without touching your real users.
Two ids, one project
Each environment has its own id, and your app picks one by the id it sends in X-Notils-App. Use the Development id in your test builds and the Production id in your released app. Both use the same auth API address.
| Production | Development | |
|---|---|---|
| Id | acme-shop | acme-shop-dev |
| Created | With the project | Only when you add it |
| Email subjects | Exactly as written | [Development] … |
| Can be deleted | No | Yes, with all its data |
What's separate
Everything. Each environment has its own users, organizations, invitations, sign-ins, emails and activity, and its own settings: name, logo, invitation link, Google client ids and webhook. An account created in Development doesn't exist in Production, even with the same email address.
Adding a Development environment
Open the project in the dashboard and choose Add development environment, on the project's General page or in the environment switcher. Its id is always your project id followed by -dev. It starts with a copy of Production's name and logo; the invitation link, Google client ids and webhook start empty, so set the ones your test builds need.
In the dashboard, Development pages carry an amber banner and badge, and the workspace-wide Users, Organizations, Auth emails and Auth activity pages show Production unless you switch them to Development.
Copying to Production
When a new name or logo looks right in Development, Copy to Production copies exactly those two settings, after showing you the values before and after. Nothing else crosses over: no users, no other settings. The copy is recorded on Production's activity, with who did it.
Deleting Development
Delete development asks you to type its id, then permanently deletes the environment with its users, sessions, organizations, invitations, email records and activity. Production can't be deleted this way: the delete only ever accepts a Development id. You can add a new Development environment afterwards.
Keep real people in Production
-dev id.
