Templates & variables

A template is the email: a subject, preview text, and a page of blocks. Here's how to make it personal and keep it consistent.

Variables

Write {{name}} anywhere — the subject, the preview text, text, buttons, or a link — and Notify fills it in from the variables you send. Names use letters, numbers and underscores. In the body, values are HTML-escaped, so a variable can never inject markup.

In the editor's Preview, every variable the template uses gets a sample-value field, so you can see the email as a real recipient would.

Inline formatting

Select words in a paragraph to make them bold, italic or a link, or use the shortcuts. The text stores a small markup, so it renders identically in the preview and in the sent email.

Blocks

A block is a reusable piece — a header, a footer, a signature — that any template can insert with /. Publishing a block creates a new version; templates keep the version they already use until someone chooses Use latest in the editor, so a footer change never surprises a live email.

Categories and the marketplace

Give each template a category — Authentication, Onboarding, Transactional, Billing, Notification, Marketing or Other — to keep the list tidy. Templates listed on the marketplace can be copied into any workspace; a copy is independent and isn't sent until its new owner publishes it.

Images are linked, not attached

Email clients load images from the web, so image blocks take a hosted URL (https://…). Uploads aren't embedded in the message.
